I learned about the sudden death of yesterday. Last night I didn’t know what to think about it or how to process it. I guess I still don’t. We came from completely different worlds — I was a career Army officer and he was a punk rocker (literally). We used to meet at the Silver Diner in Alexandria to discuss our writing over coffee, but we always just talked about geopolitics, history, and our perspectives on the world.
Furthermore, Ashley Parsons, Danny’s sibling, initiated a fundraising effort.
She established the campaign soon after his passing on July 1, 2026, aiming to preserve his memory through a significant initiative:
We invite those who wish to commemorate Danny’s legacy to contribute to the Danny Michael Memorial Scholarship. The goal is to award an annual scholarship to an exceptional Girls Basketball player at Woodgrove High School in Loudoun County. Preference goes to candidates showing leadership, sportsmanship, and compassion—qualities we cherished in Danny.
The initiative seeks to create a lasting tribute to his influence in athletics and mentorship.
