Scottie Williams collapsed near a hydration point immediately following his completion of the Silver Strand Veterans Day Half Marathon on November 9, 2026.
Despite immediate resuscitation attempts by medical personnel, his pulse could not be restored.
Scottie Williams harbored a lifelong aspiration to serve in the armed forces.
Enlisting directly from Burroughs High School at age 17 in 2015, he became a transport driver operating substantial military vehicles. His assignments spanned international deployments including Korea and Syria, where he transported essential supplies and personnel.
Post-Syria deployment, Williams faced Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), receiving an official 80% disability rating from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Family recollections reveal emotional struggles: "I found him sobbing quietly, unsure of his own turmoil," shared his mother. "I held him close, whispering reassurance."
Though hesitant initially, Williams committed to therapy while opting not to use medication. He reinvented himself through a simple existence—building a camper atop his former military truck—and relocated to Mammoth Lakes, California, finding employment at a ski resort.
