August 23, 2026 saw a community basketball tournament at Haffen Park transformed into chaos when gunfire erupted, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries.
Authorities report that the shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. near Burke and Wickham Avenues during peak attendance at the event.
Attendees gathered to enjoy the day's activities when suddenly approximately 50 rounds were discharged into the crowd.
Victim #1: Jaceil Banks, 32, sustained fatal chest injuries despite immediate medical attention.
Victim #2: Anthonaya Campbell, 17, suffered a head wound while resting on a bench with companions and remains in critical condition.
Additional victims include two male adults (ages 30 and 42) and a 29-year-old female, all currently receiving treatment at local hospitals with positive recovery outlooks.
By Sunday morning, police confirmed four arrests related to the incident, recovering six firearms from the scene.
