In Onalaska, Wisconsin, Charles W. Deeth—known to many as Chuck—departed from this world at 91, leaving behind a legacy rich with devotion and achievement.

Survived by his children John (Koni Steele), Brian (Michelle), Jeff (Lauren), and grandchildren, Chuck also cherished his siblings, Jim, along with countless friends, pupils, and athletes.

His son John recently shared heartfelt reflections in a lengthy statement, receiving overwhelming support from the community.

Previously joined in life by spouse Carmon Hancock, who preceded him in passing during 2026.

The couple celebrated 66 years together, beginning their journey on August 10, 1957.

An accomplished educator, Coach Deeth graduated from Ashland High School in 1952 and later earned his B.S. in Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

His professional path spanned 38 years, marked by roles in the Iola-Scandinavia and Onalaska school districts, where he taught diverse subjects and served as a bus driver for a season.

Coaching spanned decades: football for 27 years, basketball for two decades, baseball for twelve, tennis for five, plus a season of track. Altogether, he guided athletes across 65 seasons.

In 1973, he assumed leadership as Activities Director for Onalaska, serving until retirement in 1994.

Recognized nationally, he received the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association LeRoy “Andy” Anderson Award and was named WADA District III Athletic Director of the Year in 1984.

Inducted into the Onalaska High School Hall of Fame in 2009, honoring his multifaceted contributions as educator, coach, and leader.

Upon retirement, the district memorialized him by naming its field house in his honor.

Even after stepping down, Chuck remained engaged—playing golf, fishing, and supporting local teams including the Onalaska Hilltoppers, UW-La Crosse Eagles, Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Green Bay Packers.

Services will take place at First Lutheran Church, Onalaska, on Wednesday, August 27, 2026, with visitation at 10 a.m. and the ceremony at 11 a.m.

The Dickinson Family Funeral Homes & Crematory will coordinate arrangements and provide updates.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him, and may his spirit inspire future generations.

Rest In Heavenly Peace, Coach Charles W. Deeth!
