A Chicago mother, Corshawnda Hatter, faced a devastating double trauma when scammers created fake GoFundMe campaigns using her identity, while bullies physically assaulted her children at their school.

Within hours of the attack, fraudulent fundraisers mimicking her request for aid had already collected nearly $14,000 before community intervention stopped further donations.

Hatter responded swiftly by urging supporters to cease contributions to the imitations and directing them to her verified GoFundMe page, while openly sharing her financial details to prevent future exploitation.

Her courageous efforts recovered over $13,000 toward essential expenses including therapy sessions, medical care, and restoring her children's sense of security after recurring nightmares.

The verified campaign surpassed $7,000 within just 48 hours thanks to widespread public support.

According to reports, the horrific incident occurred Monday afternoon, November 17, when Hatter collected her children from Orville T. Bright Elementary School. The pair were approached by a large group of middle school students who subjected her son to verbal abuse before escalating to physical violence.

These attackers had previously tormented the boy for months, culminating in a violent episode where multiple assailants knocked him to the ground, injured his head, and subjected him to repeated stomping.

One 12-year-old reportedly grabbed the 6-year-old by her hair while she cried, forcing Hatter to shield her children from overwhelming numbers of aggressors.

Both mother and son required hospitalization following the chaotic event, which was captured on video and quickly spread across social platforms. The following day saw community members gathering outside the school demanding accountability.

Hatter later shared on social media that her children continue waking from distressing dreams of "Mommy help me," requiring nightly comfort as they struggle with lasting trauma.

Despite feeling responsible for not defending her children more forcefully, Hatter explained she had recently recovered from a severe sickle-cell crisis requiring intensive medical intervention.

To protect her family, she emphasized avoiding contact with minors while navigating hospital recovery processes.

Her account reveals ongoing harassment predating the school incident, including property damage, arson attempts, and deliberate destruction of belongings by neighborhood squatters.

Mayor Brandon Johnson expressed profound concern, pledging enhanced security measures, expanded youth support services, and guaranteed safe routes for students near the school.
