Chris Duckworth, recognized for his roles as a baseball mentor, umpire, and card enthusiast, departed this world at 63 following an intense twelve-month fight against cancer on September 8, 2026.

His initial connection to baseball blossomed during high school at Canal Winchester, a passion that persisted throughout his years.

Chris first gained prominence as a high school baseball player, igniting a lifelong commitment to the sport.

Post-graduation in 1981, he pursued athletics at the University of South Florida prior to continuing his journey at Ohio University.

As an accomplished scholar-athlete, he stood tall as an honored member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, nurturing friendships that transcended time.

Baseball remained central to his identity, guiding him into roles as a coach, umpire, devoted collector, and enthusiastic supporter.

Additionally, Chris established a thriving career within financial services. His principles of honesty and devotion enabled him to launch Columbus Financial Partners, his own enterprise.

His untimely departure left an indelible mark on all who knew him, with communities expressing profound sorrow and admiration for his selfless nature.

Chris served as PCABA President, officiated games professionally, and embodied genuine kindness. Conversations with him were always enriched by his presence on the field. His commitment to youth baseball included volunteering in Cooperstown, while his leadership within PCABA spanned nearly a decade as President. Chris lived by serving others—a legacy cherished forever. Our hearts ache for your absence, Chris.

Family Grieves Over Heartbreaking Departure

Robert Christopher Duckworth, son of Mary Lou Hatem Duckworth and Robert “Bobby” Duckworth, entered this world on November 12, 1962, in Columbus, Ohio.

Growing up in Gahanna and Canal Winchester, his upbringing instilled resilience and communal values.

From youth, Chris embraced diligence and the significance of collective effort.

On July 4, 1992, he wed his lifelong companion and soulmate, Susie Vittel. Their enduring union spanned 34 years, radiating love and mutual respect.

Family stood at the core of Chris’s life—father to Melanie Niesley, Robert Callahan Duckworth, Johnathan Duckworth, and cherished grandfather to Nash and Jameson Niesley.

His household echoed with laughter and familial warmth, embodying cherished traditions and unity.

Surviving are his wife, parents, children, grandchildren, and siblings—Brian, Shawn, Dennis, Edward, alongside their respective partners.

His memory lives on through those who shared his journey, his values, and his boundless affection.

Preceding him were his father Robert Thomas Duckworth, father-in-law Robert John Vittel, and mother-in-law Betty Jane Stricharczuk.

Plain City mourned deeply; Chris was treasured both as a man and as a mentor. His passion for baseball—whether coaching or umpiring—was matched only by his devotion to family. Prayers for the Duckworth clan.

Moreover, he anchored Plain City’s spirit, contributing tirelessly to causes dear to his heart.

Faith anchored his existence, reflected in his involvement with Saint Joseph Catholic Church Knights of Columbus. Always ready to assist, encourage, and inspire, his influence endured beyond his years.

The Duckworth family will soon hold a celebration remembering Chris’s remarkable life.
