Coach Clinton Noddin Matthews’ Death Brings Sadness to His Family and the Stoughton Community

Clinton Noddin Matthews’ death occurred peacefully at his home in Stoughton, Massachusetts, on Saturday, December 27, 2026, just one day after he celebrated his 82nd birthday.

His passing marked the loss of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and longtime community member whose life centered on family, work, and service to others.

Born on December 26, 1943, in Boston, Clinton was the son of the late George and Bernice (Hayes) Matthews.

He grew up in Charlestown and received his education in Boston public schools, where he developed a strong work ethic that shaped his future.

More than five decades ago, he made Stoughton his home, where he lived for the past 53 years and built deep roots in the community.

Clinton devoted much of his professional life to engineering.

He worked as a design engineer at Gillette in South Boston for more than 25 years, contributing to projects that reflected his precision and dedication.

He later continued his career at Zebra Technology in Rhode Island, where he spent 15 years before retiring at the age of 70.

Colleagues and family alike remembered him as a man who took pride in his work and approached every challenge with focus and integrity.

Beyond his career, Clinton gave generously to his community.

He held a lifelong passion for baseball and spent many years coaching Stoughton Little League.

Through his time on the field, he mentored countless young players, teaching them not only the fundamentals of the game but also the values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

Clinton shared his life with his wife, Evelyn R. (Ferzoco) Matthews, whom he married in 1988. Together, they formed a strong and loving partnership.

He leaves behind his children, Sandra L. Denneno and her husband Andrew, David S. Matthews, and Robert J. Matthews and his wife Tara, all of Raynham.

He is also survived by his stepchildren, Kevin Mischley and his wife Jennifer of Wrentham, Mark Mischley and his wife Michelle of West Bridgewater, and Carolyn Sullivan and her husband David of Vermont.

In addition, Clinton leaves a lasting legacy through his 13 grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, George Matthews, and his sister, Barbara Flener.

Family and friends will gather to honor Clinton Noddin Matthews’ death and celebrate his life during visiting hours at Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park Street (Route 27) in Stoughton, on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral prayers will take place at the funeral home on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.

Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, his love for baseball, and the deep devotion he showed to his family and community throughout his 82 years.
