Durham Technical Community College alumnus Vashawn Peaks tragically passed away on April 19, 2026. Born in Durham, North Carolina, his family has chosen to remain private during this difficult period.

Peaks excelled at Hillside High School before earning his degree from Durham Technical Community College. His commitment to the Durham Dolphins exemplified his passion for the sport and community.

The football community is in shock, with tributes pouring in from teammates and mentors alike. Kenton Gerald expressed heartfelt condolences through his social media platform, urging prayers for the Peaks family.

Yesterday I found out that one of my favorite player’s from my Durham Dolphins team passed away on Sunday. Vashawn Peaks was special on and off the field and he will truly be missed. He never complained, he never backed down, and was always a true leader. He was a Father, mentor, and part of the Durham community and his impact on me as an owner/coach has been beyond monumental.
