After being sentenced to 12 years for raping a student under his authority, the former coach served just eight years before release.
In 2016, a Dickson County Grand Jury indicted John Thomas “Tom” Mullinicks Jr. on multiple charges including four counts of rape and four counts of rape by authority figure.
Investigators began probing once reports indicated inappropriate behavior with students surfaced.
School officials immediately suspended him, leading to his resignation soon after.
By early 2018, Mullinicks admitted guilt in Dickson County Circuit Court for authority figure rape.
Judge Suzanne Lockert-Mash imposed a 12-year term with credit for pre-sentence detention.
Court documents show he received a lifetime ban from contacting the victim and was added to the national sex offender registry.
Evidence included communications between Mullinicks and the victim detailing unlawful sexual acts during 2015-2016.
Despite his lengthy sentence, he was freed after serving eight years.
Community members express worry over his reintegration into Dickson County.
“This individual poses a serious threat—remain cautious of this predator,” warned local resident Jaime Drinnen on social media.
Now in his fifties, Mullinicks continues as a registered sex offender.
Residents urge continued awareness to safeguard children and families.
