Decades of Dedication: Halvorsen's Football Journey
Originating from Williston, North Dakota, Floyd grew up in Butte, Montana, among four siblings. His academic path led him to Carroll College, before launching a coaching career at Central Catholic High School in Portland, Oregon.
In 1972, he joined Churchill High School in Eugene, Oregon, where he combined coaching football with teaching mathematics. Over 28 transformative years, his teams achieved 176 victories, 10 league championships, and one state crown.
Post-retirement in 1996, the renamed football field stood as a testament to his enduring impact. Beyond the gridiron, Halvorsen embraced nature—finding solace in fly fishing, hunting, and outdoor adventures with loved ones.
The community gathered to celebrate his life through a Facebook memorial event, featuring personal reflections and shared memories.
Survivors include wife Patricia, children Marie, Tim, Robyn, and grandchildren spanning multiple generations. He is preceded in death by son Floyd William.
His funeral service will take place July 9, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eugene. The family extends gratitude for collective support during this difficult time.
