Courtney Hodge, a 19-year-old LSU freshman from Texas, was killed on Friday.
According to reports, her vehicle failed to decelerate in time, colliding with a commercial truck on Louisiana Highway 190, resulting in immediate fatalities.
Law enforcement initiated an investigation into the two-vehicle collision shortly after 3 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 190 near Jennings Road.
A preliminary report indicates a 2005 Kenworth semi-truck was moving westbound on LA-190 toward Jennings Road when it began slowing near a crossover point.
Simultaneously, a 2026 model vehicle was traveling behind the commercial truck. The cause of the rear-end impact remains undetermined.
Authorities confirmed Hodge was not properly secured in her seat, contributing to the severity of her injuries.
Her mother, Sherqueena Myles Jackson, shared that Courtney graduated from Red Oak High School in 2026 and was returning home after her first year at LSU in Baton Rouge, where she studied Political Science.
Ryan Smith expressed profound grief through his official Facebook page, honoring Courtney's legacy.
Our hearts ache deeply for the Hodge family. The Red Oak High School Class of 2026 sends love and prayers during this painful period. While words cannot heal, may cherished memories sustain you. Courtney’s spirit will forever be part of our collective journey.
Residents from Texas and beyond shared condolences in online forums.
