His kindness, determination, and humility touched everyone around him. His legacy lives on through the countless lives he impacted. Marshawn Kneeland, aged 24, was one of four children born to Wendy and Shawn Kneeland, along with siblings AJ, Shawn Michael, and Yahmya.
The family shared that their mother passed away earlier in 2026 due to an undisclosed illness, a loss that deeply affected Marshawn throughout his life.
Authorities report that Kneeland died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a late-night encounter with law enforcement on the Dallas North Tollway.

Dispatch records reveal that Texas Department of Public Safety officers attempted to pull over Kneeland for a traffic infraction around 10:30 PM on Wednesday.
When he refused to comply, officials initiated a pursuit that ended when his vehicle disappeared from view. The abandoned car was later discovered in a crashed state near Frisco.
Throughout the investigation, multiple reports surfaced about Kneeland's mental health struggles and expressed intentions to end his life. His partner contacted emergency services with these concerns beforehand.
Investigators also found messages where Kneeland bid farewell to his loved ones.
Search teams located his body approximately 1:30 AM inside a portable restroom using thermal imaging technology.
The Collin County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause of death once the investigation concludes.
Kneeland, a second-round draft selection in the 2026 NFL Draft from Western Michigan University, gained recognition for his performance including scoring his first NFL touchdown via a recovered blocked punt against the Arizona Cardinals.
Following his 2026 NFL draft selection from Western Michigan University, he participated in 18 games spanning one and a half seasons.
Colleagues, teammates, and representatives shared their deep sadness, praising his talent, commitment, and compassionate nature.
