The Lexington community mourns the untimely passing of cherished local hero and standout athlete, Marciano Jenkins, affectionately known as Rocky.
Marciano "Rocky" Jenkins, a 20-year-old former star of Frederick Douglass High School football, tragically lost his life on New Year's Day, January 1, 2026, amidst a shooting in downtown Lexington.
The Lexington Police Department reports the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of South Broadway, near a shopping center close to Virginia Avenue.
Responding officers discovered three individuals injured by gunfire in a parking lot near KSBar and Grille and Lexington Clinic, including Jenkins, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, with one later succumbing to his wounds on January 2, 2026.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
His passing has deeply impacted his family, friends, and community, leaving countless hearts heavy with grief.
Community members are gathering to honor his legacy, celebrating his athletic achievements and unwavering spirit.
A memorial fund has been established to support his family during this challenging period.

Wearing number 99, he primarily played as defensive end and defensive tackle.
He maintained rigorous training habits, achieving impressive bench press (230 lbs), squat (345 lbs), deadlift (295 lbs), and clean (240 lbs) numbers.
"Winning isn't everything—it's the only thing," his guiding philosophy reflected his approach to competition and camaraderie.
Throughout his high school career, Jenkins earned multiple accolades and led his team to championship victories.
Beyond football, he excelled in baseball and basketball, showcasing his versatile athletic talent.
His contributions to Lexington extend beyond sports, leaving an indelible mark on his community. He is survived by his mother Courtney Fields, three siblings, and extended family.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by his family in due course.
