Wichita East High School Head Wrestling Coach Kenneth “Kenny” Taylor Jr., 48, Found Unresponsive Inside School Premises as Investigation Continues

Kenny H. Taylor Jr, a Wichita, Kansas-based wrestling coach and former athlete, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2026, at an untimely age of 48, leaving his family and loved ones devastated.

According to reports, Kenny, a longtime head boys’ wrestling coach at Wichita East High School, was found dead at the school on Friday.

Wichita police are investigating the death as a suspected suicide.

Authorities responded to the school around 1:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a person not breathing. Taylor was confirmed deceased at the scene.

In a message to parents, East High Principal Sara Richardson said:

“Good afternoon, East family. I am sad to report that we had a staff member pass away today. Counselors will be available at school on Monday to provide support for anyone who may need it.”

Police are continuing their investigation but have not released further details at this time.

Furthemore, the untimely death of Kenneth ‘Kenny’ Taylor Jr. has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and loved ones.

Kenny was a beloved member of the Wichita wrestling community for over 35 years, having served as a former wrestling star and longtime coach at several high schools and youth wrestling clubs.

Taylor was also selected as Wichita High School East Head Wrestling Coach for the 2026-2026 school year.

Prior to joining East High School, Kenny served as head boys’ wrestling coach at his alma mater, West High School, leading his team in several victories.

He also served as the head coach at Independent before taking an assistant coaching position at Heights.

Similarly, Kenny served as the wrestling coach at Hard Knox, a private youth team in Kansas.

The late began his athletic journey at a very young age, excelling in multiple sports, including football, wrestling, and cross-country.

He began his athletic career at Wichita West High School, where he excelled in multiple sports.

Furthermore, while at West High School, Kenny became the first wrestler to place four times at the state tournament and the third to be a two-time state champion.

Kenny also became one of the first wrestlers from the West to earn All-American honors while attending Labette Community College.

Kenneth ‘Kenny’ H. Taylor Jr.’s contribution to the Wichita community as a standout athlete and legendary coach will always be remembered.

Many of his loved ones are paying tribute to the late Kenny and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

One wrote:

“He was my QB when we played in High school, He convinced me to wrestle in high school. Then we always competed against each other in high school. He taught me everything about wrestling. A real good friend and brother. In passing we always bring up good memories. You will be missed..R.I.P. 😢🕊️.”

In addition to being an amazing coach, Kenny Taylor Jr. was a great husband to his longtime wife, Marla Taylor, and a loving father to his five children.

He also leaves behind his cousins, siblings, nieces, nephews, and the entire family. The Taylor family will soon provide details about his funeral and memorial services.
