NFL Hall of Famer Dick Lane’s progeny have launched a documentary chronicling their father’s extraordinary life journey.

The film centers around Dick’s experiences growing up in Austin, Texas.

After a four-year production period, this 114-minute documentary premiered at Miami Beach's American Black Film Festival last year.

Scheduled screenings will occur on Wednesday, July 30, 2026, coinciding with L.C. Anderson High School's 12th annual reunion celebration.

Showtimes begin at 6:30 p.m. at Austin Film Society Cinema located at 6259 Middle Fiskville Road.

While die-hard fans recognize Lane's legendary career, this release promises deeper insight into his transformation from medical challenges at birth to elite professional achievements.

Richard Ladimir Lane: First African-American Catholic Evangelist

In 1964, Dick married Mary Cowser, who made history as the inaugural African-American woman in Coca-Cola advertising campaigns.

Their son Richard Ladimir was born in 1965 and earned a Morehouse College degree in mass communications by 1984.

Between 2008-2009, he spoke at Real Catholic Men events before founding Richard Lane Ministries in January 2005, becoming the sole African-American Catholic lay evangelist.

His global ministry includes conducting parish missions, revivals, and reaching tens of thousands through sermons and media appearances.

Notably, he hosted EWTN's “New Wine in New Wineskins” series and appeared regularly on Catholic broadcasting networks.

Currently serving as St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Parish evangelization director since October 2026, Lane continues his father's legacy through community outreach.

Additional Family Members: Richard Andrew Walker & Bobby Grayson

Beyond Richard Ladimir, Dick Lane had another son Richard Andrew Walker with an undisclosed spouse, plus stepson Bobby Grayson from his marriage to jazz artist Dinah Washington.

Dinah Washington, renowned 1950s jazz pianist, was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame in 1986 before passing December 14, 1963 at age 39.

Some sources suggest Bobby Grayson may have died April 2026 at 71 due to COVID-19 complications.
