A local mother raises alarms regarding unresolved bullying issues and weak administrative follow-up at St. Vincent Ferrer School, highlighting emotional struggles endured by her son due to insufficient institutional backing.

Gabriela Matos utilized the Franklin Park Community Connection Facebook forum to recount a distressing event where another student challenged her son publicly in class.

Matos explained that she received little to no official updates about the confrontation, forcing her to gather information independently. She emphasized that the administration failed to provide transparent communication, leaving her family to navigate the crisis alone.

"No parent should need to independently investigate their child's hardships because schools neglect open dialogue," Matos stated, prompting numerous community replies sharing comparable experiences.

Additionally, Matos voiced wider worries about the treatment of Hispanic families within the school environment. She mentioned that several Hispanic families had quietly withdrawn after experiencing exclusion or dismissal when voicing concerns.

The post avoided formal discrimination claims but highlighted patterns acknowledged by many commenters. Felix Hernandez responded by referencing his own past at St. Vincent Ferrer, noting the scarcity of Hispanic peers then, and pointed out parallel discrimination complaints at nearby St. Patrick High School.

Marlene Mazzulla Barnes urged the institution to reflect constructively, suggesting outreach via the Archdiocese’s Office of Catholic Education and questioning if Matos consulted the parish pastor directly.

“Consider reaching out through official church channels,”

Len Patino advised practical steps such as maintaining thorough documentation of incidents, preserving written correspondence, and escalating matters systematically—strategies that proved effective in similar cases.

However, skepticism persisted. A user identified as HolaCola8680 argued that many families had already departed due to pervasive bullying by peers and staff, warning others to seek alternative schools.

“If you’re not part of their circle, you face unequal treatment. Consider relocating—better opportunities exist nearby.”

Linda Temple Suwalski echoed these frustrations, recounting her son’s removal from a Catholic school where the principal offered minimal support. She noted that bullies’ parents were often active church members, potentially influencing lenient handling.

Matos further noted that tensions dated back to October 2026, when the boy’s mother directly confronted the perpetrator.

To date, St. Vincent Ferrer School has not issued a public statement addressing these allegations.

As discussions expand online, community members urge greater transparency and accountability from school leadership.
