Hurley Nall Manning, a cornerstone of Milton, Florida's football legacy, passed away on September 30, 2026 at 87.
The late mentor joins his beloved wife, Shirley Manning in eternal rest. Survived by daughters Lynette Roever and Heather Couper.
Manning's profound impact on local sports and community remains unmatched, inspiring future generations of athletes.
"Only three options exist when passing the ball—two unfavorable," his timeless wisdom echoes across Milton's stadiums.
For over two decades, Manning guided Milton High School Panthers to two straight state titles (1978-1979) after a near-victory in 1972. Under his leadership, the program secured nine district crowns, seven regional championships, and four sectional titles.
More Than a Legendary Mentor
Beyond coaching, Manning excelled as a student-athlete at Milton High School, earning honors including All-Conference Guard (1953), Halfback (1954-55), and All-State recognition (1955). He helped form Northwest Florida Conference champions in 1952 and 1955.
At Troy State University, he led as top rusher in 1959. Teammate recalled: "Mule was one of my finest teammates. His coaching legacy fits perfectly with his playing brilliance."
Tributes pour in from students, families, and peers honoring his memory. Milton High School illuminated Manning Field in his honor—a fitting tribute to a man who embodied "Sit Lux" ("Let your light shine").
