De Luca’s legacy embodies unwavering commitment to both sport and community

The island’s soccer scene mourns Pasquale De Luca, who departed this world on July 13, 2026, at 88 years old. His life intertwined deeply with the game, leaving behind a tapestry of memories and achievements.

De Luca stood as a pillar in Long Island soccer, celebrated for his work with Forest Park Soccer Club and contributions to the Long Island Soccer Football League. Inducted into the league’s Hall of Fame, his name adorns the Over-50 Cup—a testament to his enduring impact.

Vincent Treglia, representing the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association, shared heartfelt reflections on Facebook, describing De Luca as “a true gentleman.” Treglia emphasized how De Luca prioritized inclusivity over competition, ensuring every player had access to opportunities regardless of financial barriers.

“Pasquale made sure no one was left behind—he covered fees, provided gear, and built bridges through the love of soccer.

Community members echoed these sentiments, highlighting how De Luca’s mentorship fostered lifelong connections. One individual recalled, “He taught us respect, teamwork, and the power of kindness—these lessons outlast any match.”

The Forest Park Soccer Club honored its founder with a poignant statement, noting his ability to unite generations through sport. Tributes flooded in, praising his integrity and generosity.

Local leaders joined in remembrance. Peter Pinori of the Eastern New York State Soccer Association called him “a man of action,” while Donato Cellucci of N.Y. Hota/Bavarians described him as “sincere and genuine”—qualities that defined his character.

Former players like Dan Giorgi shared how De Luca’s environment nurtured friendships beyond the field. “The bonds formed under his guidance are priceless,” he remarked.

Beyond soccer, De Luca’s family remained central to his story. Surviving relatives include his wife, children Antonio, Denise, Francesco, and Roberto, along with grandchildren Jenna, Anthony, Julia, Ava, Pasquale, Massimiliano, and Isabella. Siblings Maria, Ida, Lidia, Lina, Rosina, Lilianna, and Noe also survived him.

Visitation details were announced at Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home in Glen Cove, with a Mass at St. Rocco Church and burial at Locust Valley Cemetery.

De Luca’s departure leaves a void in Long Island’s soccer fabric, yet his influence endures through every player he touched.
