Coach Rodney Jay Ehler, 77, Leaves Behind a Remarkable Legacy of Coaching and Education

His journey began with exceptional talent, highlighted by his early call-up to Legion baseball at just 15—a testament to his extraordinary abilities and promise. Recognized as First Team Class A All-State for both baseball and basketball, Rodney's athletic prowess was matched by his dedication to mentorship and community.
His career spanned decades of inspiring students and colleagues alike. In 1988, he and Dean Palser were honored with induction into the Chadron State Hall of Fame, celebrating their collective contributions. Notably, Rodney officiated the 1987 Class A Boys’ State Basketball Championship, further cementing his role as a pillar of local sports history. Colleagues and athletes recall his integrity on the court and his ability to foster growth beyond the playing field.

Rodney’s personal life included a 17-year marriage to Glenda, with whom he shared cherished family moments and travels. Though they later separated, their union produced three children—Jay, Brooks, and Brock—each carrying forward his values. Brock, a University of South Carolina alumnus, expressed profound grief in a heartfelt Facebook post, calling his father “The Goat” and honoring his enduring influence.
