John Brady, a former Annapolis boys basketball coach, passed away at the age of 78 on Tuesday, December 9, 2026.
He is survived by his loving and supportive wife of many years, Sharon, and his grown daughter, Erin.

His coaching style—intense, relentless, and memorable—pushed players beyond limits through demanding drills and competitive practices.
Though perceived by some as strict, his approach embodied tough love, preparing athletes for challenges beyond the court.
"Your good isn't your best, and even your best isn't the finish line."
Beneath his demanding exterior lay a genuine care for his players, fostering discipline and strength that endured long after their playing days ended.

As a coach, he was tough as nails, and some might call his coaching style cruel, oppressive, or harsh.

His close relationship with his mother began in Bermuda and continued throughout his life, influencing his coaching philosophy.
Family remained central to his identity; he lived near his parents in Brooklyn Park alongside Sharon and Erin, nurturing a multigenerational bond.
He often reflected on the importance of a strong upbringing, modeling it for his own family and encouraging similar values in his players.
His father cherished memories of meeting Clara during his Marine service in Bermuda, where they raised three children together.
