Detroit Wings legend Alex Delvecchio lived in Rochester Hills with his wife, Judy Munro, and five children.

Hockey Hall of Famer Alex Delvecchio played a pivotal role in guiding the Detroit Red Wings to championship glory in the 1950s, ultimately earning his place among hockey's elite. He tragically passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2026.

A cause of death has not been disclosed, but family members shared that he passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones. The team released a statement reflecting on his profound impact:

"Alex was more than a hockey icon. He was a devoted husband, loving father, great grandfather, cherished friend and respected teammate to so many,"

"While the world knew him as an incredible hockey player with numerous accomplishments on the ice, we knew him as someone whose humility, strength, competitiveness, kindness and heart were even greater than his knew achievements."

Delvecchio's playing career included standout seasons with fellow hockey great Gordie Howe. He secured championships in 1952, 1954, and 1955, claimed the Lady Byng Trophy three times, and earned two All-Star honors. Inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1977, he remains third all-time in franchise games played behind Howe and Nicklas Lidstrom. His number 10 jersey now hangs among the Red Wings' honored retirees.

Alex Delvecchio Married Judy Munro Following Divorce From Teresa

Alex was previously married to Teresa Delvecchio, though details about their wedding remain private. In early 1973, she reportedly dated him briefly without knowing his true identity—calling him "Alek" during their short acquaintance.

"Can you imagine going with a fella and having to call him Fats?"

After several years together, they divorced. Later, Alex found companionship with Judy Munro, a Michigan-based visual artist whose work has appeared in regional exhibitions. The couple shares their home with two Basset Hounds named Sam and Jazz.

Family and friends remember Judy's artistic journey beginning in childhood, when a horse drawing caught her teacher's attention. She earned a competitive scholarship to New York's Pratt Institute in 1974, later completing a BFA at Wayne State University while exploring law school. When her corporate role ended in 2009, she embraced painting full-time, showcasing pieces like "The Michigan 4" at the Huron Valley Council for the Arts in 2012.

Alex Delvecchio Is Survived By Five Children And Ten Grandchildren

Alex and Teresa raised five children: Ken, Janice, Corrinne, Alex Jr., and Lenny. Corrine earned her bachelor's in industrial management from Davenport University in 2001, while other children maintain privacy.

Mourning his loss, the family expresses gratitude for supporters during this difficult period. Alex's legacy continues through his ten grandchildren, who prefer to stay out of public view.
