A 20-year-old Catawba College soccer goalkeeper and former Bandys HS athlete, Fletcher Harris, along with his partner Skylar Nichole Provenza, tragically died in a head-on collision on January 16, 2026.

Reports indicate their deaths resulted from a drunk driving crash that struck their vehicle. The collision happened around 11 p.m. on Amity Hill Road near Cleveland.

The couple’s profound love story ended abruptly as both succumbed to injuries at the scene.

Fletcher Harris is survived by his parents, Mark and Meredith Harris, and three brothers.

Mark and Meredith have not yet spoken publicly about their loss, choosing to grieve privately.

Community members organized two Meal Trains to support affected families.

The crash happened shortly after 11 p.m., near Cleveland along Amity Hill Road, east of Iredell County.

Though the couple lost their lives, the truck driver Juan Alvarado Aguilar, 37, sustained minor injuries and faced charges including impaired driving, vehicular manslaughter, and failure to appear in court.

Juan was detained and bail set at $251,500.

Hailing from Saginaw, Michigan, Fletcher excelled in soccer and football at Bandys High School, earning multiple letters before graduating in 2026. He continued his athletic journey at Catawba College, where he played for three seasons.

Academically, Fletcher shone as a double major in Environmental Sustainability and Biology, regularly featured on academic honor rolls.

Catawba College’s athletic director Joe Tolbert shared heartfelt condolences: "We’re devastated by Fletcher’s passing. He was cherished by all. Our thoughts remain with his family."

Bandys High School echoed these sentiments, describing Fletcher as kind, hardworking, and selfless—qualities that defined his legacy.

Details regarding visitation, funerals, or memorial services remain private as the family grieves.
