Crest High School varsity football player, Damarius Galarza, took his last breath suddenly in his sleep on December 10, 2026, at the age of 18, due to a sudden medical event.
Michelle Franco, Damarius’s mother, shared her devastating loss through a heartfelt GoFundMe message, expressing the overwhelming grief of losing her son unexpectedly.
Our family is shattered, and we’re navigating this unfathomable sorrow, she wrote. Her words capture the depth of her anguish as she seeks solace amidst the pain.
Those who knew Damarius often spoke of his warm presence—how he effortlessly made everyone feel welcome and brought joy through his infectious laughter. He embodied kindness, always ready to lift others’ spirits regardless of their day. Michelle highlighted his generosity, noting his willingness to help anyone in need, which touched countless lives.
Born in Lebanon on July 17, 2007, Damarius excelled academically as an honor roll student while pursuing athletics as a defensive end for Cedar Crest’s football team. Outside the field, he balanced academics with work at Wendy’s since age 15, embracing independence. Just days before his passing, he earned his driver’s license—a milestone marking newfound freedom.
Looking ahead, Damarius planned to attend Pennsylvania College of Technology in the fall to study construction management, reflecting his aspirations for the future. Beyond sports and work, he cherished simple pleasures: fishing, skateboarding, rollerblading, biking, playing piano for his niece, and cheering for the Philadelphia Eagles.
For Michelle, the tragedy struck abruptly, right after Damarius began embracing the autonomy he had worked so hard to achieve. The fundraiser she established aims to ease funeral expenses, with gratitude expressed for community support: “Every bit of help means everything during this painful chapter. Thank you for honoring our son’s legacy,” she stated.
In private reflections, Michelle poured out her love and longing: “Dear Son, I think of you daily—your dreams, your hugs, your ‘I love you Mom.’ My heart aches without you,” she wrote, capturing the intimacy of their bond. Her grief echoes the universal pain of losing a child, yet her resilience inspires hope.
