Doug Peacock, a dedicated Mt. Vernon High School football coach, succumbed to cancer on January 8, 2026.

After weeks in hospital, he transitioned to home hospice care.

Doug Peacock devoted his existence to high school athletics.

An alumnus of Eastern Hancock (1975), he excelled across multiple sports including football, wrestling, and track.

Recognized for exceptional talent, he earned All-State and High School All-American honors and represented the 1975 IFCA South Indiana All-Star team.

Transitioning to coaching, Doug joined Mt. Vernon High School in 1994, mentoring generations of student-athletes. He retired from coaching in 2010 and teaching in 2014, later receiving Hall of Fame induction in 2026 for his lifelong commitment to excellence and community.

Such a remarkable individual. Serving as an assistant coach, I felt honored to know him and cherished our ongoing connection. May Coach Doug Peacock find eternal peace through our Lord Jesus Christ. ✝️

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful servant of God.

His family cherished moments together, from backyard cookouts to celebrating birthdays publicly. Doug's bond with his parents remained strong throughout his life.

At 96, I'll still push my great-granddaughters on the tire swing!

His unwavering strength and spiritual foundation brought comfort to all who knew him. The community finds solace knowing he rests in peace.
