Athletic Director Richard "Dick" Redifer, 92, Leaves Behind a Legacy of Dedication and Love
Richard "Dick" Redifer, a revered figure in education and sports, passed away at the age of 92, leaving a profound impact on those who knew him. Born in Hawaii in 1933, Dick's journey began with a nomadic childhood, shaped by his parents' military careers.
His academic and athletic pursuits flourished at Kingston High School and Central Michigan University, where he excelled in multiple sports despite limited experience. Dick's commitment to service led him to join the United States Navy, where he trained as a pilot and developed a lifelong passion for aviation.
After his naval service, Dick devoted 37 years to the Hemlock School District, wearing many hats—principal, teacher, coach, and more. His leadership and kindness made him a cherished mentor and friend.
A Life Defined by Service and Passion
Dick's legacy extends beyond his professional achievements. He was a devoted husband to Patricia Redifer and a loving father to Elizabeth, Daniel, and Timothy. Though he mourns the loss of Matt and Connie, his family remains united in grief and memory.
An avid hunter and archaeology enthusiast, Dick cherished outdoor adventures and the stories of Michigan's Native American heritage. His final hunt in November 2026 underscored his enduring spirit.
