Adam Wayne Gregory, a cherished alumnus and standout athlete from Riverheads High School, departed this world on December 19, 2026, at age 43, following a peaceful life in Staunton, Virginia.

Born December 12, 1982, in Staunton to parents Rocky Wayne Gregory and Brenda Sue Myers Depriest, Adam cultivated profound ties to his hometown and educational roots.

Graduating from Riverheads High School in 2002, he became synonymous with excellence in athletics.

His leadership propelled the Riverheads football team to historic glory in 2000, securing the state championship—the county's inaugural football title. As a defensive tackle, he earned all-state honors, cementing his role in the Gladiators' triumph.

Equally formidable in wrestling, Adam dominated as a heavyweight with over 120 career victories, culminating in a perfect senior season that claimed Virginia’s state crown.

His impact resonated beyond the field, earning induction into the school’s Red Pride Hall of Fame in 2009.

The Riverheads Red Pride Hall of Fame shared:

“Adam Gregory, a 2002 graduate, was an all-state defensive tackle for the 2000 State Champion football team and a multi-year all-district/region standout. As a wrestler, he amassed 120+ career wins, capping his senior year with a state title and undefeated record. A true Gladiator legend.”

Outside sports, Adam thrived in simplicity—building connections through sales at Frito-Lay for nine years, and finding solace in hobbies like fishing, pool, bowling, and motorcycling.

Survived by wife Heather Alison Daniel Gregory, son Jacob Edward Gregory, and stepfamily members Brenda Gail Bryant and late relatives Rhonda Sue Gregory Fowler and Lanora Bryant Gregory.

Funeral services at Cherryvale United Methodist Church, led by Reverend Jonathan Greer, marked his departure from this world.

Adam Wayne Gregory will be forever remembered as a champion competitor, devoted family figure, and embodiment of Gladiator pride. His legacy endures in Riverheads’ halls and hearts.
