Alec Chambers, a talented skateboarder, succumbed to injuries sustained in a collision with a drunk motorist near Wilmington on December 31, 2026.
Emergency responders confirmed his passing immediately at the scene.
Authorities report the incident involved a Jeep driven by Michelle Masiello, 34, from Carolina Beach, who struck Chambers while leaving a local venue. The vehicle then collided with trees and barriers near a nearby establishment.
Masiello, released post-evaluation, faces severe charges including vehicular manslaughter and impaired driving. She remains incarcerated at NHSO Detention Center with a $255,000 bond.
The Wilmington Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues investigations; community members encouraged to share leads via (910) 343-3600.

His mother, Joy, stood as his unwavering supporter through life’s challenges. Following Robert’s passing, Joy remarried Howard Callender, expanding their family network further.
Known for his luminous personality and contagious laughter, Alec brought light wherever he went.
Survivors include his immediate family, extended relatives spanning generations, and countless friends connected through shared passions and adventures.
He is preceded in death by paternal grandfather Alston Lee North and father Robert D. Chambers.
Viewing services will honor Alec’s memory starting at 1:00 PM January 9, 2026, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel, led by Pastor Sam Zumwalt, with burial at Oakdale Cemetery.
