Dalton Vonderheide, a Belleville, Illinois native and high school student-athlete, tragically passed away on Monday, October 13, 2026, due to a fatal car accident at just 17 years old.
The accident occurred during a crossover crash on Interstate 70 in St. Charles County, Missouri.
State troopers report that Vonderheide was operating a 1993 Dodge Stealth eastbound near Wentzville Parkway when the incident unfolded at 11:33 a.m.
Authorities noted he lost control, crossed the median, breached barriers, and collided with a 2018 Mack truck on the opposite lane.
First responders confirmed Vonderheide died instantly at the scene around 11:42 a.m. The Mack truck driver, a 34-year-old from South Carolina, escaped unharmed.
His passing has created immense sorrow within his family, friends, and community.
Vonderheide's exceptional abilities on the field and compassion off it made lasting impacts.
