Missouri Coach Richard "Todd" Fairchild, 63, Passed Away, Leaving Wife and Son Behind!

Todd and his spouse, Laurie, shared a 40-year journey together.

Richard "Todd" Fairchild, a cherished instructor and mentor from Chillicothe, Missouri, departed from his residence on October 8, 2026, at age 63.

Throughout recent years, Todd battled the challenges of bulbar-onset ALS. Yet, he remained inspired by the outpouring of support from former pupils, lifelong acquaintances, peers, and classmates.

Survivors include: Laurie Ann Lyman, his partner of four decades; their son, Eric; daughter-in-law, Hallie; and his mother, Linda Fairchild.

Laurie and Todd's union commenced on June 8, 1985, a milestone celebrated by family and friends.

For their golden anniversary, the family arranged a card shower to express their gratitude. Kennedi Fairchild shared: Todd and Laurie commemorate four decades of matrimony this week❤️

The coach relished quality time with Laurie. Together, they attended concerts, engaged in sports, and embraced every adventure.

He treasured being a grandfather to Treynor and Zoey, whose presence brought him unparalleled happiness.

Todd also mourns the loss of his siblings and extended family members.

Predeceased by: Father Richard Fairchild; Father-in-law Larry Lyman; Brother-in-law Tim Hess.

Born December 3, 1961, in Fairfax, Missouri, Todd's roots were in Chillicothe where he completed high school. He pursued higher education at Northwest Missouri State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in education in 1984.

His dedication to teaching and mentorship defined his career. He started instructing in Hale, Missouri, dedicating twelve years to student development and athletic guidance.

Subsequently, he taught in Meadville and Hamilton, Missouri, guiding middle schoolers through social studies and extracurricular pursuits.

Todd's innovative approach included establishing "The Andy Griffin Club," fostering life skills via engaging experiences.

A memorial service will occur at Chillicothe United Methodist Church on October 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends may gather Sunday, October 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., also at the church. Additional viewing options are available at Lindley Funeral Home.
