At 94, Dr. Benjamin Jack Collinsworth, a distinguished former basketball player, track athlete, and esteemed member of the boxing team, has departed from this world. His passing marks the end of an era defined by excellence and dedication.

Born in 1927 at Bryceland High School, Dr. Collinsworth excelled in multiple sports and was an active participant in the 4-H Club, showcasing his livestock at state fairs across Louisiana. His commitment to outdoor pursuits extended to hunting and fishing, activities that brought him immense joy and connection to nature.

His academic journey led him to Louisiana Polytechnic Institute—now known as Louisiana Tech University—where he joined the freshman basketball squad in 1950. Following graduation, he dedicated a year to teaching at Ringgold High School before answering the call to serve in the Marine Corps at Quantico, Virginia, during the Korean War. Upon returning, he transitioned into coaching, leading both basketball and track programs while also teaching mathematics.

Surviving spouses include his beloved wife Roxie Barfield Collinsworth, whom he married in 1935. Together, they raised a large family, including children Jeff McIntosh, Jennifer Evangelista, Rebecca Kim Collinsworth, Leslie Sundy Collinsworth Ramsey, Keith, Fen, and Sherri Collinsworth, along with 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. His granddaughter Meghan Miears recently shared heartfelt memories, highlighting his enduring impact on future generations.
