As an esteemed alumnus of the University of Texas-Pan American, Kym obtained her Master’s qualification in English from the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) during 2026.

Her scholarly pursuits remained active, as she moved to Massachusetts aiming to commence doctoral research, reflecting her relentless aspirations.

Kym’s existence harmonized ambition with meaningful relationships.

She possessed a unique talent for uplifting those around her, offering encouragement to students wrestling with uncertainty and providing levity to peers.

Kym traveled alongside her partner, 35-year-old Guadalupe “Pita” Rodriguez, and their one-year-old pit bull companion, Zoe, when disaster struck unexpectedly.

On Interstate 40 within Tennessee, a devastating multi-vehicle accident altered countless lives.

Ethan Collins, 25, collided with the back of a vehicle driven by 73-year-old Darrell Eggers.

The force propelled Eggers’ car into the median, where it became airborne before colliding with Kym’s vehicle traveling east.

Both Kym and Pita lost their lives, while Eggers sustained injuries. Additional vehicles suffered damage, leading to prolonged road closures.

Legal proceedings are underway concerning culpability for one of the motorists involved.
