The Pellston Public Schools community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of one of its beloved track athletes, Christopher Houseworth, and his father, Dale Houseworth, who both tragically passed away on July 5, 2026, in what has been reported as a drowning accident.

In an emotional statement released the following day, Pellston Public Schools Superintendent addressed the tragedy with a heartfelt message to students, staff, and families.

“Christopher was a remarkable young man whose light touched all who knew him. He was a gifted multi-sport athlete, known for his infectious smile and uplifting spirit. His presence brought joy to every room, and his memory will be cherished forever.”

Dale Houseworth, a devoted father and steadfast supporter of his son, was described as Christopher’s biggest fan, standing beside him in both triumph and challenge.

The loss of both father and son has left the tight-knit community reeling.

A GoFundMe Has Been Created To Help The Family

Christopher and Dale are survived by Ronald “Ronnie” Houseworth, Christopher’s older brother and a recent Pellston High School graduate, and their grandmother, Linda Williamson, who lovingly served as Christopher’s guardian.

The superintendent wrote,

“Linda is one of the strongest individuals I’ve ever met. Her resilience will help carry the family through this unimaginable loss.”

The Pellston school community has quickly mobilized to offer help and healing.

Grief counseling services are being arranged by school staff, and a GoFundMe campaign is actively raising funds to support funeral costs and assist Linda and Ronnie in the difficult weeks ahead.

The fundraiser has already collected over $14,000 toward its $22,000 goal.

The GoFundMe page reads,

“Please consider giving to support with funeral costs, and to support Linda and Ronnie through their time of grieving.”

Donations may also be sent directly to Pellston Public Schools.

Christopher & Dale Houseworth Are Mourned By Friends And Family

As tributes pour in, one theme remains constant: Christopher’s kindness, energy, and joyful spirit left a lasting mark.

One friend shared,

“Chris was a great guy. He was very kind and nice to me. When class was boring, he made it fun. I miss him dearly and my heart is in pain just thinking of him being gone.”

Another track teammate added:

“Chris always pumped me up during practice and ran with me when I was behind the group. Sometimes he waited after practice so I wouldn’t be alone. He was always smiling and joking. Track won’t be the same without him.”

And in a touching reflection, a long-time friend of Dale wrote:

“This is heartbreaking. Dale has been my friend for over 26 years. Condolences to their family and other friends.”

Although their lives were tragically cut short, Christopher and Dale Houseworth leave behind a legacy of love, laughter, and community impact.

The community of Pellston continues to rally around Ronnie and Linda, offering prayers, financial support, and heartfelt tributes as they navigate the days ahead.

Funeral arrangements will be announced once finalized.
