Remembering EllaRyan Marie Miller: A Life of Dedication and Passion

    EllaRyan Marie Miller, hailing from Wendell, North Carolina, was a dedicated student at the University of North Carolina Wilmington when she passed away on August 5, 2026.

    Her untimely passing occurred after being struck by an Amtrak train while crossing railroad tracks in downtown Clayton.

    Clayton Police Chief Greg Tart shared that EllaRyan had just completed her summer internship and was heading to her car on Front Street when the accident happened.

    Amtrak confirmed Train 79 was traveling from New York to Charlotte at the time of the incident.

    The university and community mourn the loss of EllaRyan, whose leadership and spirit left a lasting impact.

    Family and friends express deep sorrow and honor her memory through heartfelt tributes.

    UNCW announced EllaRyan's passing on their official platform, highlighting her academic pursuits in communication studies and her role as a passionate campus leader.

    She served as president of STEP and was a beloved fitness instructor, known for her dedication to community building.

    Beyond her academic and fitness roles, EllaRyan was a certified yoga instructor, contributing her expertise to local studios and organizations.

    From May to August 2026, EllaRyan worked as a Yoga Instructor and Social Media Coordinator at True North Yoga and Ayurveda.

    She crafted engaging content for the studio’s digital platforms while leading empowering yoga sessions.

    EllaRyan also contributed to RiverWILD as an intern and coordinated communications at Scooter’s Coffee and JuiceVibes.

    Her professional journey included roles at The Neuse Country Club, where she honed her customer service skills.

    Before university, she excelled as a cheerleader at Clayton High School, showcasing her leadership early on.

    EllaRyan’s legacy as a yoga instructor and community member endures through those she inspired.

    Survivors include her parents, Rick Miller and Jaqueline “Jackie” Bates Lauer, two sisters, Gracie and Bryce Miller, step-father Kevin Lauer, and half-siblings.
