James “JJ” Joseph Brooks, a cherished member of Bristol, Rhode Island, and standout athlete, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2026, at the young age of 22, leaving behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories.

Although the official cause of JJ Brooks’ passing remains undisclosed, friends and family continue to honor his memory through heartfelt tributes shared across social platforms.

One supporter shared:

“We’re left speechless, watching our children grow into incredible adults. The warmth, laughter, and cherished moments we shared will always remain. Our hearts ache, but we ask for your thoughts and prayers as we support the Brooks family.”

Born on May 12, 2002, in New London, Connecticut, JJ quickly became known for his infectious positivity and athletic prowess.

From an early age, he embraced sports with passion, earning recognition across multiple disciplines.

At Mt. Hope High School, he showcased his versatility by competing in football and varsity lacrosse, contributing significantly to his teams’ successes.

Wearing jersey #32, Brooks excelled as a defensive midfielder and midfielder, securing numerous accolades during his high school career.

After graduating in 2026, he pursued higher education at Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI), focusing on cybersecurity studies.

Though his journey ended prematurely, JJ’s impact on his community and those who knew him endures.

The Bristol community has launched a fund to assist JJ’s family during this challenging period.

JJ Brooks is Survived By His Parents, Anthony Brooks Sr. and Jamie Sousa Brooks, Siblings, and Extended Family

Beyond his athletic achievements, JJ was deeply loved by his parents, Anthony Brooks Sr. and Jamie Sousa Brooks.

While Anthony and Jamie have chosen not to issue a formal statement amidst their grief, they frequently honor JJ’s memory online with photos and messages of love.

JJ consistently expressed gratitude toward his parents, reflecting the bond they shared.

His father, Anthony “AJ” Brooks Sr., serves as a retired U.S. Navy officer and works as a security specialist at the U.S. Department of Commerce.

JJ’s mother, Jamie, currently holds the position of senior director for adult services at Crystal Springs in Assonet, Massachusetts, since June 2026.

Previously, Jamie worked as a health center director at Providence Community Health Centers, executive director at Atria Senior Living, and held leadership roles at Benchmark Senior Living and Rhode Island Hospital.

She also contributed as Administrative Director at Rhode Island Hospital, Director of Training at Amgen, and Director of Education at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

JJ’s extended family includes his sister Tiffany Brooks and her partner Eric Booth, twin brother Anthony “AJ” Brooks Jr., grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and more.

Tiffany shared on social media:

Funeral arrangements include a viewing on Monday, November 17, 2026, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI 02885.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, November 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony of the Desert Church, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol, RI.
