Tragic Loss: Former Wrestling Coach Found Deceased After School Shooting Incident

Former Wrestling Coach Logan Moter Dies by Apparent Suicide After Student Shot at Stewartville High School

Law enforcement officials confirmed that Logan Moyer, a former assistant wrestling coach, succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting incident at Stewartville High School on December 12, 2026.

Emergency responders arrived to discover two individuals with gunshot wounds. One was a student-athlete who was transported to a medical facility for urgent surgery and remains in critical condition. The second individual was later identified as Moyer, who had been previously dismissed from his coaching role.

The tragedy unfolded as the student was en route to a bus transporting athletes to a wrestling competition when he was shot. Meanwhile, deputies found Moyer near the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Investigators suggest the student's injury occurred while he approached the bus, which was preparing to carry approximately 40 participants to a tournament.

Sheriff Kevin Torgerson revealed Moyer's termination history, emphasizing the complex circumstances surrounding the event. Authorities are investigating potential connections between Moyer and the injured student, though no motives have been established yet. Reports indicate that Moyer arrived at the school during morning preparations before the incident unfolded.

Following the shooting, fellow coaches attempted to intervene, and a subsequent gunshot was heard—believed to be Moyer's final act. School closures were implemented for both high school and middle school, along with the postponement of a scheduled basketball game. Community leaders, including Superintendent Belinda Selfors, expressed profound sorrow and urged collective support during this challenging period.

As investigations continue, officials stress the importance of patience and empathy. The community remains united in processing the emotional impact of the incident, with ongoing efforts to provide clarity and comfort to those affected.
