Tragic Loss of Young Wrestler Mason Poore: A Community Mourns His Passing

14-Year-Old Northwestern Wrestler, Mason Poore Died In Chester Township Accident, Survived by Parents Jamie and Zac Poore!

On January 2, 2026, Mason Poore tragically lost his life in a vehicle-bicycle collision in Chester Township.

The incident unfolded around 5:43 PM on Smithville Western Road near Ogden Road, where Mason was cycling east when struck by a 2026 Ram 1500 pickup truck traveling in the same direction.

The crash propelled both Mason and his bicycle across the road's northern edge. Emergency responders transported him to Wooster Community Hospital, though he was declared deceased upon arrival.

The truck driver, 30-year-old Robert R. Ross from Ashland, remained at the scene unharmed.

Mason survives his parents Jamie and Zac Poore, siblings Caden Holliday, Lilianna Poore, Austin Poore, and Arabella Poore; grandparents Carolyn Aukerman, Mike (Ann) Aukerman, and Kathy (John) VanNortrick; plus numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceded by grandfather Joseph Poore, great-grandparents Mike and Ruthie Aukerman, Bette Tarleton, Bruno Peterinelli, and Uncle Brian Aukerman.

Orlando Pearson initiated a fundraising campaign to support the family's funeral arrangements.

Born November 4, 2011, Mason attended Northwestern Local Schools as an eighth grader.

Devoted wrestler, Mason recently developed enthusiasm for basketball alongside his wrestling commitments.

Friends recall Mason as vibrant and energetic, appreciating simple pleasures like Flamin' Hot Cheetos, Northwestern basketball games, and meaningful connections.

Known for his infectious enthusiasm, Mason consistently offered enthusiastic encouragement to teammates and peers alike.
